Chairman's Corner: Why My Generation Must Liberate Main Street
by Illinois College Republicans on 11/02/11
The recession has hit many hard, but probably no one group harder than young adults. The figures outlined in this recent Red Tape MSNBC article provide a sobering snap shot of what young people are currently facing during this downturned economy, and these bleak prospects could be permanently delaying or even threatening their prospects for the future. This is leaving many young adults to wonder “Am I experiencing a temporary set back or am I going to be stuck in this moment forever?”
Given this sense of hopelessness, it’s understandable that young adults are looking for answers, and finding voice for their fears, but should Occupy Wall Street be the response?
I don’t think so, and I know many Americans don’t. This is why the Illinois College Republicans - rather than pile on the well-earned criticism of the Occupy protests - have initiated a positive response, one that gives focus to the real problems facing our economy and a path towards getting our future on the right track.
The Occupy protests have given College Republicans across Illinois an opportunity to make two points: 1) The attempts of corrupt elected Democrats to occupy Main Street with crippling policies and regulations that are destroying the business environment in America, and 2) Loitering (and worse) on public grounds, demanding handouts and the overthrow of capitalism is not how you save a nation on the brink.
The Liberate Main Street video the Illinois College Republicans released last week may have illustrated these points to an extent, but it will be the actions of College Republicans and their allies over the next year that will define our organization and what we will have done to make a difference.
To this end we have developed The Liberate Main Street Initiative. This initiative will be our chapters across the state working to recruit more members to help us elect fiscally responsible pro-growth officials in 2012 and to educate their peers as to what really saddles our economy both in Illinois and across the country.
Our College Republicans and the students who join us will be those eager to roll up their sleeves and get to work to liberate business from the shackles that are the larcenous taxation, paralyzing regulation, and spending by our government that would make Kim Kardashian blush.
Economists have long warned that the growing deficit is a ticking time bomb destined to explode on future generations. Couple this with the hidden tax of government regulations, costing business an estimated $1.75 trillion and increasing exponentially. In fact, if the regulatory operation of the United States were a company it would be one of the five largest in the world. In an economic environment like this with a massive unemployment rate of young Americans, it is increasingly clear that we are that future generation who will have to pay the price, and our response to this crisis will define our generation. Do we want to be defined by those in the Occupy movement as the entitled, victim-mentality individuals we see screaming to be rescued or are we something better than that?
This is has become our problem and now it’s our time to step up. College Republicans everywhere are going to be knocking on doors, sharing their ideas online, and making phone calls all in the name of electing those who will reign in our government and set our economy free.

ICRF Calls for an End to the Democrats Blame Game
by Illinois College Republicans on 10/06/11
The Illinois College Republicans have released a new video telling Democrats in Washington to cease the blame game against Republicans. With control over a majority of the federal government since the 2006 elections, they continue to blame Bush and now blame Republicans for fighting the tax and spend policies they were elected to stop in 2010. With Democrats we’ve seen nothing but record deficits, crushing additions to our debt, and big government job killing policies from the Obama Administration. It’s time the Democrats own their problems and stop playing the blame game.
Quinn Doesn't Get Our Message: Hires Three Time Loser
by Illinois College Republicans on 10/06/11
After the Illinois College Republicans sent Governor Quinn a clear message that his policies do not work for Illinois, he hires none other than three-time failed Congressional candidate Dan Seals to assist with economic development. Seals assumes a six figure, high ranking job at the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Here are some points to consider why this is a failure for Quinn: We understand it’s a sacred Democrat ritual to give jobs to friends and fellow career politicians, but this case seems worse than others. If the Independent 10th District voters can’t trust Dan Seals’ policies when it comes to job creation, why should all of Illinois be forced to swallow them? Thanks Governor Quinn!
College Students Send Graduation Message to Gov. Quinn
by Illinois College Republicans on 10/06/11
Graduating soon? Feel confident about your job prospects? Neither do these students and far too many others in Illinois. While the job market continues to underperform nationally, Illinois finds itself lagging behind in the rear of the pack due to Democrat lawmakers’ tax, spend, and barrow fiscal policies.
Illinois is ranked the 3rd worst state for business and 48th in job creation dating back to before the recession. Who’s hit hardest by these trends? Unfortunately it is college aged students with unemployment being the highest among 20-24 year olds. Are Barack Obama and Pat Quinn winning your future?
Didn’t think so.
